Design Week Mexico runs 5–11 October 2026, spread across venues throughout Mexico City. It is the city's annual celebration of design and, increasingly, one of the better weeks of the year to see how design and contemporary art are being collected together here.
What the week actually contains
Design Week Mexico is not a single fair in a single hall. It is a programme distributed across museums, public parks and cultural venues, built around several recurring strands.
Design House takes over a residence and hands individual rooms to designers and architects, who treat each one as a complete proposition. It is the strand that most rewards a slow visit, because you are seeing finished environments rather than objects on plinths.
Inédito shows work that has not been exhibited before — the closest the week comes to a discovery format, and the place to look if you want to see what is arriving rather than what has landed.
Visión y Tradición puts contemporary designers alongside traditional Mexican craft practices. For collectors interested in how material knowledge passes between generations, it is usually the most substantial thing on the programme.
Design Tours move through the city itself, which is the point: Mexico City's design culture is not concentrated in one building.
Plan around neighbourhoods, not days
The single most useful piece of advice for this week is geographic. Traffic in Mexico City can turn a fifteen-minute hop into an hour, so group your visits by area rather than trying to crisscross the city.

Where art meets design collecting
Design weeks tend to convert people into art buyers, and the reason is simple: once someone has thought hard about a room, the wall becomes the unresolved part. A carefully specified interior with nothing considered on the wall reads as unfinished, and most people feel it before they can name it.
If that is where you find yourself in October, the useful question is not "what matches" but "what can hold its own here." One work with real presence does more for a room than several chosen for their palette.
