What “original” means here

Every painting on this site is a one-of-one work made by hand by the artist — oil, acrylic, mixed media, on canvas, linen or panel. There are no reproductions in the paintings collection, no giclée passed off as an original, no open editions. When a piece sells, it is gone; the page stays up, marked sold, so the record of the work remains.

If you want the image rather than the object, that is what our limited-edition prints are for — signed, numbered, and priced accordingly.

Prices are published

Most galleries make you ask. We don’t. Every work carries a price on the page, because the alternative — “price on request” — exists to give the gallery an information advantage over the buyer, and we would rather not start a relationship that way.

Original paintings currently run from roughly $600 to $16,500. A large share of the collection sits between $1,000 and $4,000, which is where most first paintings get bought.

Where the work comes from

The programme is anchored in Mexico City — Jorge Tellaeche, Karlos Ibarra, Nuria Oliva, Fabián Ugalde, Roti Martínez, Raúl Cerrillo — and extends to artists we’ve met through the gallery in New York, Paris, London and Tbilisi. We show emerging and mid-career painters, not blue-chip estates. That is a deliberate position: the work is affordable because the artists are early, not because the painting is minor.

Buying a painting from us

You can buy directly on the site, or you can write to us first — most people do. Tell us the room, the wall, the light and roughly what you want to spend, and we will send back three or four works that actually fit, including ones you would not have found by scrolling. There is no charge for that and no obligation attached to it.

Every painting ships fully insured from Mexico City, crated to order, with a certificate of authenticity. Shipping is priced by the size of the work — the full table is on our shipping page.

If this is your first painting

Buy the one you keep coming back to. Not the one that matches the sofa, and not the one you think will appreciate — nobody, including us, can tell you that reliably about a living artist. The works that hold up are the ones you still notice after a year on the wall.

If you want a second opinion before you commit, our art advisory is complimentary, and our guide to collecting covers the practical questions — condition, provenance, framing, resale — without the mystique.

Questions about a specific painting — its surface, its scale in a room, whether the artist has anything else — write to artofnoma@gmail.com. A person answers.
