Niamh Barry paints the leisure underside of corporate life, drawing on seven years spent on the investment team at a major North American growth-equity fund. The Long Soak joins her cast of anonymous figures — at the bar, in the bath, mid-cocktail — caught in the rituals of decompression and the quiet emptiness behind a polished surface.

Worked in oil and acrylic on canvas, the painting stages one of those private withdrawals: a figure attempting to detach from the demands of working life, stillness becoming a subtle form of escape. Barry keeps the figure anonymous, the square 122-centimeter canvas giving the moment of retreat room to hold.
