Mexico City Art Week 2027: Zona Maco, Material and Salón ACME

|Josh Stein

Mexico City Art Week runs 3–7 February 2027, anchored by Zona Maco at Centro Citibanamex. It is the largest art week in Latin America, and for a gallery based here it is the week the rest of the art world comes to us.

The three fairs, and why the difference matters

People talk about Art Week as one event. It is really several, with genuinely different temperaments, and knowing which is which saves a lot of walking.

Zona Maco is the anchor — founded in 2003 and now the established international fair, spanning contemporary art, design, antiques and photography. It is the broadest and the most commercial, and it is where the international galleries show up.

Material Art Fair is younger, tighter and more focused on emerging practice. Collectors looking for artists early tend to give Material more of their day than its size would suggest.

Salón ACME is the most experimental of the three. It has historically operated closer to an artist-run model, and it is where you are most likely to see work by people without gallery representation at all.

If you only have one day, most collectors of emerging work would be better served by Material and Salón ACME than by trying to see all of Zona Maco badly.

How to plan the week

Zona Maco sits at Centro Citibanamex, some distance from the neighbourhoods where the gallery programme happens. Treat it as its own half-day rather than something to slot between studio visits.

The satellite fairs and the gallery openings cluster more centrally, which means the rest of the week can be walked in the way the city rewards. Our neighbourhood guide covers how Roma, Juárez, San Miguel Chapultepec and Polanco each read differently.

Book early. February is the one week of the year when Mexico City hotel availability behaves like a fair city, and prices move accordingly.

What Art Week is good for, and what it is not

Art Week is an excellent way to calibrate. In five days you can see roughly where the market sits, which names are recurring, and what a given price band actually buys right now.

It is a poor way to buy carefully. Fair conditions — crowds, time pressure, a dealer waiting — are designed to compress decisions that deserve to be slow. The collectors who do best here use the week to build a shortlist and buy afterwards.

Where we fit

Art of NOMA is a contemporary art gallery based in Mexico City. We represent emerging and mid-career artists from Mexico and internationally, and we are one of the reasons the work being made here is reaching collectors abroad.

We are not exhibiting at these fairs — this guide exists because collectors ask us how to spend the week. If you are coming to the city in February, or simply want to see what Mexican and Latin American emerging work looks like right now, you can meet our artists or browse the paintings we currently have available.
