Events & Exhibitions · Mexico City
Museo Franz Mayer is running five exhibitions at once — World Press Photo, a design survey, and two that stay open until June 2027. A sixth closed on 30 August.
Five shows open, one just closed
Franz Mayer is the decorative-arts museum, which is exactly why people under-rate it as a place to see photography and design. It sits on the Alameda in a former hospital building, and it programmes more temporary exhibitions at once than almost any museum in the city.

Durero: the first viral artist
The museum's framing is a provocation and it earns it. Albrecht Dürer worked out, five hundred years before the internet, that an image which can be reproduced and distributed travels further than one that cannot — and that the artist's monogram is what keeps authorship attached to it as it travels.
This is the most directly useful show in the city for anyone thinking about buying an edition. The signed, numbered print is not a lesser version of a painting; it is a different and older answer to the question of how art reaches people. Dürer got there first.
It runs to 6 June 2027, alongside Alemania en la Colección Franz Mayer, which reads the permanent collection through its German holdings over the same year.
World Press Photo, and what a cloister does to it
World Press Photo 2026 is installed in the cloister until 4 October. The setting matters: an open-air colonnade around a courtyard makes you walk a circuit and turn corners into the next image, which is a very different experience from a white-cube run of photographs on one wall.
Oficios de la tinta: Ali Kazma closes the same day, and pairs with it well — Kazma films people working, ink and machinery and hands, and it sits against the photojournalism rather than beside it.
Visiting
Avenida Hidalgo 45, facing the Alameda Central, in the Centro Histórico. It is walkable from Bellas Artes and the Museo Nacional de Arte, so it slots into a Centro day rather than needing one of its own.
What closed on 30 August. Fútbol: Diseñando una pasión closed 30 August, and it was not the only thing closing that day — Museo Jumex closed two shows and MUAC closed Los grupos y otras revueltas artísticas. 30 August was a hard deadline across the city, not just here.
