Pénélope Barbier

Pénélope Barbier (France, 2002) Her work balances the line between abstraction and figuration—she creates compositions in which fragments of reality seem to materialize from layers of color, texture, and outlined objects. Barbier’s process is deeply intimate. She often builds her canvases as surfaces that serve as “guardias of memory”, drawing found materials from the rural landscapes and Mediterranean coastlines of her childhood. The result is an interplay between the remembered and the imagined.
