Twig Original Painting by Aurora Kalos

Twig belongs to Aurora Kalos's "Non-Migratory Birds" series, about migration and the inner search for home. It carries the same interior focus that runs through her portraits — a figure under the weight of an environment entered not by choice, held between adaptation and loss.

Worked in oil on canvas, the painting sets a dry branch growing behind the figure's head as the sign of an alien, rigid structure, while a bird with a twig in its beak stands for the attempt to build a nest again. Kalos dissolves the surrounding space so the figure has little to rest on, the tall 120-centimeter format pressing that heaviness down through the composition.
