In today’s world of an endless flow of information, noise, and comparison, many of us lose ourselves in achievement and the pursuit of imposed ideals.
But everyone has their own pace, and even a pause is an important part of the journey.
Because without contemplation, creation is impossible.
Once, I came across a surimono by Katsushika Hokusai depicting a grasshopper and a persimmon — an illustration accompanying a Japanese haiku. I don’t know the exact translation, but its meaning can be conveyed like this:

Grasshopper —
quietly drinks
the sweetness of the persimmon.

I was struck by this simplicity: a small creature completely immersed in its quiet moment. There is something deeply earthly in it, and at the same time something transcendent.
Returning to my painting, I turned to one of the slowest and most unnoticed creatures — the snail.
Where is it heading?
Where does it come from, and where is it going?
How does it perceive this world?

It seems to me that it has no goal —
only a path through which it lives.

Creation is impossible without contemplation.
So, in the flow of life, don’t forget to pay attention to the small details around you
