Every year, Art of NOMA will publish a short list of emerging artists from Latin America worth following. This page explains how the list works, so anyone can check it, question it or send a name. Many lists of emerging artists do not show how they were made. This one shows its method.
What the list is
It is a yearly selection with published criteria. It includes artists that Art of NOMA does not represent. It is a guide, not a sales catalogue.
It is not a ranking. It does not say who sells best or who will sell next. It points to artists whose work deserves a visit, a conversation and a place on your calendar.
The criteria
- Recent public work. A body of work shown publicly in the last 24 months.
- Latin American link. The artist is based in Latin America or comes from it.
- Start of the market. The artist is at the beginning of a market, with a first solo show or a significant group show.
- A named panel. A small panel chooses, led by curator Carlos Algara. Outside voices join the panel and are named with each edition.
There are no numeric scores. There is no paid placement. The list uses no investment language: it says who is worth looking at, not what will go up in value.
How the panel decides
The panel looks at the work first. Each nomination is read, the images are viewed, and the panel talks it through. Each edition names its outside voices when the list is published.
How nominations work
Nominations are open to everyone. Artists, curators, writers, gallery staff and collectors are all welcome to send a name. Send an email to hello@artofnoma.com with the subject “Nomination”. Please include:
- The artist’s name.
- The city where the artist works.
- Three images or links to the work.
- One paragraph on why the artist should be considered.
Nominations close on a date announced on this page. The first edition is announced for 2027. The exact date is to be confirmed.
Disclosure
Artists represented by Art of NOMA can be included only if the outside panel members agree. Any represented artist on the list is labelled as such.
What inclusion gives
- A profile on this site, in English and in Spanish.
- A studio video, where possible.
- No fee. Artists never pay to be on the list.
