Start with the questions people actually ask
In a 2024 survey of 2,154 collectors in more than 70 countries, run by Artsy, 95% said a listed price matters when they buy online. A missing price was the most common barrier to buying online (56%). Shipping logistics (46%) and too little information beyond the price (46%) came next. Most of those surveyed were in the United States, so the numbers describe collectors in general, not only Mexico.
The toolkit answers those three barriers: the price, the delivery and the information. Each page is short and written for someone buying a first or second work.
The toolkit
- Where to check an art price. The main price tools compared: what they cost, what they cover and what they miss for emerging artists in Mexico and Latin America.
- What art really costs. A worksheet for the full bill: price, framing, shipping, insurance, taxes and installation, plus the questions to ask before buying.
- What emerging art costs in Mexico City. The price bands of our own catalogue, with the numbers behind them.
- Buying art across borders: Mexico. Documents, who handles what, and the rules for works that cannot leave the country.
Also useful
- Art advisory. A free conversation with Carlos Algara, our curator, by email or WhatsApp. It suits first-time buyers, designers and gift buyers.
- Frequently asked questions. Payment, shipping and how the gallery works.
- Collector guides. Longer articles on pricing, discounts, payment plans and the vocabulary of the art market.
A suggested order
If you are new to buying art, read the price page first. Then work through the cost worksheet with a specific work in mind. If the work will cross a border, read the cross-border page before you pay, not after.
What the toolkit is not
These pages are general information. They are not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and they make no promise about what a work will be worth later. We buy and sell art as a gallery, so we explain our own interest in the editorial standards.
