Events & Exhibitions · Mexico City
On Thursday 3 September 2026, seven Mexico City galleries opened new exhibitions on the same evening. Fourteen shows are now dated across ten venues — and seven of them close on a single day, Saturday 24 October.
Seven galleries, one opening night
Mexico City does not stagger its gallery season. It opens it. On the first Thursday of September, after most of the commercial spaces have been dark or half-dark through August, the openings are scheduled against each other rather than around each other — and the result is that a single evening carries most of the autumn programme.
This year that evening was 3 September 2026. Seven galleries opened work that night: Proyectos Monclova with two shows, Galería Karen Huber with two, RGR with one, House of Gaga with two, Travesía Cuatro with one, Patricia Conde with one, and Terreno Baldío with a group show tied to GAMA Week. Ten exhibitions, seven addresses, one night.
The clustering is not an accident of scheduling. An opening night that everyone attends is worth more to each gallery than an opening night that only its own list attends, and a city with a compact gallery geography — Roma Norte, San Miguel Chapultepec, Colonia Juárez — can be walked in an evening in a way that London or New York cannot. The cost is that the shows then run in lockstep, which is why the closing dates matter more here than in most cities.
Seven shows close on 24 October
Because the season opened together, it closes together. Saturday 24 October 2026 is the end date for seven of the fourteen shows in this guide — both Proyectos Monclova exhibitions, both at Karen Huber, César Paternosto at RGR, John Giorno at kurimanzutto, and Candela Capitán at LABOR.
A week before that, on 17 October 2026, three more come down: both House of Gaga shows and Asunción Molinos Gordo at Travesía Cuatro. Between the two dates, ten of the thirteen currently open exhibitions will have closed.
Practically, this means the useful window is narrower than it looks. A visitor arriving in late October will find most of the season already struck, and the November calendar thin until the fairs begin their run-up. The first three weeks of October are when the season is at its fullest.
What is open, gallery by gallery
Every date below was read from the gallery's own exhibition listing on 8 September 2026. The badge shows the closing date.
Fondo artístico Manuel Felguérez: Evocaciones escultóricas
3 Sep – 24 Oct 2026
Proyectos Monclova
Sculptural work from the Felguérez estate holdings — the Mexican geometric abstractionist's own foundation material, shown as a body rather than as single pieces.
Open nowGuillermo García Cruz — Imágenes interrumpidas
3 Sep – 24 Oct 2026
Proyectos Monclova
Running alongside the Felguérez rooms, so the two are one visit.
Open nowAndrew Holmquist — Aguacero
3 Sep – 24 Oct 2026
Galería Karen Huber
Karen Huber is the city's painting gallery, and it opened the season with two painters at once.
Open nowCecilia Granara — ¡Vé a Pintar!
3 Sep – 24 Oct 2026
Galería Karen Huber
César Paternosto — Abstract Stone
3 Sep – 24 Oct 2026
Galería RGR
Paternosto is the Argentine painter who argued that Andean stonework, not Europe, was abstraction's older source. RGR programmes Latin American geometric abstraction more consistently than anyone else in the city.
Open nowJohn Giorno — Life is a Killer
29 Ago – 24 Oct 2026
kurimanzutto · Mexico City
The poet and Dial-A-Poem founder, in the San Miguel Chapultepec space. Opened five days before the 3 September cluster and closes with it.
Open nowCandela Capitán — Apnea
19 Sep – 24 Oct 2026
LABOR
The season's late entry: it opens on 19 September, more than two weeks after the rest, and still closes on the common date. A five-week run.
Opens 19 SepBruno Zhu — Café Por Qué
3 Sep – 17 Oct 2026
House of Gaga · Mexico City
Sam Pulitzer — Skin and Bones
3 Sep – 17 Oct 2026

Open nowAsunción Molinos Gordo — de aquellos barros, estos lodos
3 Sep – 17 Oct 2026
Travesía Cuatro · CDMX
Molinos Gordo works on agriculture, land and rural knowledge. Travesía Cuatro runs Madrid, Guadalajara and Mexico City — this one is the CDMX space.
Open nowUna Obsesión por las Flores
5 Sep – 29 Nov 2026
LagoAlgo
LagoAlgo is the Chapultepec space co-founded by OMR, and its programme is listed through the OMR site rather than its own.
Open nowStudio Lenca — Hacer Lugar
5 Sep – 29 Nov 2026
LagoAlgo
Both LagoAlgo shows opened on 5 September and run almost three months — the longest gallery runs of the season bar one.
Open nowHipervínculos: Alejandro Cartagena 2005–2026
3 Sep 2026 – 16 Ene 2027
Patricia Conde Galería
Twenty-one years of Cartagena's photography in one room, and by a wide margin the longest run of the season — four and a half months against the six or seven weeks everyone else is giving their shows.
Open nowEncontrar se
3–6 Sep 2026
Terreno Baldío Arte · Roma Norte
A four-day group show staged for GAMA Week, with Aurora Noreña, ORLAN, Ana Teresa Fierro and others. Closed 6 September.
Closed 6 SepTwo of the fourteen are not open as you read this: Encontrar se at Terreno Baldío ran only across the GAMA Week weekend and closed on 6 September, and Candela Capitán's Apnea at LABOR does not open until 19 September. The other twelve are on view.
Which shows run past the autumn?
Three. Both LagoAlgo exhibitions — Una Obsesión por las Flores and Studio Lenca's Hacer Lugar — run to 29 November 2026, and Alejandro Cartagena's survey at Patricia Conde runs to 16 January 2027.
The Cartagena show is the outlier of the season and worth treating as its own destination. Hipervínculos covers 2005 to 2026, which is effectively the whole of his working life, and Patricia Conde is the city's photography gallery — the only CDMX space that programmes photography exclusively at this level. Four and a half months is a museum-length run in a commercial room.
The museums, meanwhile, are running to their own calendar and two of them are about to close shows. Museo Tamayo closes Tamayo Horizontes on 20 September 2026 and Fátima Rodrigo's Con todo y mi tristeza on 27 September. At MUAC, Tim Hecker leaves the sound room on 27 September. And Museo Jumex is shut entirely for installation, reopening on 26 September.
Seeing the season in one weekend
The geography does most of the work. Proyectos Monclova, Karen Huber and House of Gaga are close enough to walk between; kurimanzutto is in San Miguel Chapultepec, a short ride west; RGR and Patricia Conde sit in the Colonia Juárez and Polanco band. LagoAlgo is inside Chapultepec park itself, at the Lago restaurant complex, which makes it the one to build a half-day around rather than a stop between two others.
If you have a single day, the honest advice is to take the 24 October group first — seven shows sharing one deadline is the part of the calendar that will disappear. Cartagena will still be there in January.
This guide was compiled from the galleries' own exhibition listings, not from press aggregation. Where a gallery did not print a year alongside a date, the show is listed here only because the gallery's own site marked it as currently on view. Dates change; confirm with the venue before travelling.
