When is SP-Arte 2027, and where is it held?

SP-Arte’s “about the event” page lists the next edition as 7 to 11 April 2027. The fair says it is held every year over five days at the Pavilhão da Bienal in Ibirapuera Park, and that it began in 2005 and turned 20 in 2024. Its closing report for the 2026 edition repeats the 2027 dates and adds that the 2026 calendar also included the fifth SP-Arte Rotas, on 26 to 30 August. Our own SP-Arte 2027 listing shows the same April dates.

The fair presents galleries and design studios that work with contemporary and historical artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, along with publishers, magazines, museums, institutions and independent spaces. Around it, SP-Arte describes the Circuito SP-Arte, a series of exhibition openings and events across the city before and during the fair.

The table lists the editions SP-Arte has published, so you can see how the year is laid out.

What did SP-Arte 2026 look like?

In its closing report, the fair says its 22nd edition ended on Sunday 12 April 2026 with 35,000 visits and 180 exhibitors, a mix of national and international galleries, design studios, publishers, cultural institutions and independent spaces. It also reports about 100 foreign guests among museum leaders, collectors, curators and art advisors, including representatives of museums in the United States.

It marked ten years of its design sector, which SP-Arte describes as one of the main drivers of the fair’s growth. Among the points exhibitors raised, the report lists the quality of the works shown, a qualified group of buyers with a notable presence of new collectors, many of them young, and a sense of renewal in the circuit, with young artists, designers and galleries on show.

The report also gives sales testimonials from several galleries. We do not repeat prices or sales claims here: they are the galleries’ statements, published by the organiser, and we have not checked them.

Where does emerging work show at SP-Arte?

The clearest signal is the prize list. At the 2026 fair, Sauer awarded the Sauer Art Prize, which the report says recognises promising artists of the contemporary scene. The winner was Gabriel Branco, a visual artist born in São Mateus in the east of São Paulo, represented by Galatea, whose work moves between analogue photography and painting. The Prêmio MECA SP-Arte ABACT 2026, awarded at SP-Arte for the first time, went to Rafael Chavez, represented by Casa Triângulo.

Beyond prizes, the fair’s own wording about its 2026 edition points to younger participants: it speaks of young artists, designers and galleries and of new collectors among the buyers. That is the organiser’s statement, and we cannot measure it. If you want a definition to hold alongside it, our guide to what emerging art is explains how we use the term.

Rotas, described next, is the better fit for early collecting, going by the organiser’s own words about building new audiences for the art market.

What is SP-Arte Rotas, and why does it matter?

SP-Arte Rotas describes itself as an art fair that moves with time and as a platform of connections, displacements and discoveries. Its fifth edition ran from 26 to 30 August 2026 at Arca in Vila Leopoldina, with the Brazilian curator and writer Bernardo Mosqueira as artistic director. The fair’s description says his task was to keep consolidating an event that highlights Brazilian art while loosening the borders with other Latin American countries.

The closing report counts 78 exhibitors among galleries, invited projects and museums, and says 95 per cent of the participating galleries sold work. It lists galleries from Argentina (Barro, Isla Flotante and W—galería), Uruguay (Galería Sur) and Colombia (Casa Zirio), plus Orma of Italy with the Brazilian MaPa. It also describes the fair as a space for building audiences for the art market, which is the language of early collecting.

Several exhibitors described Rotas as a place to meet younger artists and new buyers. Galeria Paulo Darzé presented a small-format project that placed young artists next to established names, Claraboia showed the first exhibition of its new group of represented artists, and the project Novos Para Nós, which has taken part since the first edition, sold about a third of the works it showed. Those are the exhibitors’ own statements as the organiser published them; we have not checked the figures. The fair also had a sector called Mirante, curated by Mosqueira.

Four invited projects stood for the idea of community: Casa do Povo, with the Aldeia-Escola-Floresta of the Maxakali people; Galeria Ocupá from Rio de Janeiro; Galeria Jaider Esbell de Arte Indígena Contemporânea from Boa Vista; and Sertão Negro from Goiânia. SP-Arte’s talks programme, the Palco SP-Arte, ran on 27 to 29 August. The home page of the fair also links an essay, published on 15 October, asking whether the future of art fairs is local.

How do you plan a visit?

SP-Arte’s “about the event” page says the fair programme combines conversations between artists and curators, a design sector and exhibition, prizes and audio guides. The fair’s “useful information” page says children up to 10 do not pay, that free cloakroom service is available at the entrance, and that large backpacks and bags above 40 × 20 × 40 cm are not allowed. It also says the fair has a free app for iOS and Android that holds your ticket or invitation. The page for the 2027 edition says the full programme is coming soon, so plan on checking again closer to April.

The Circuito SP-Arte means that the week around the fair is also a gallery week across São Paulo. As with any fair, ask what the sale terms, shipping and certificate are before you buy. Our guide to buying art at an art fair lists the questions to ask.

How can a Mexico City collector follow it?

You can follow SP-Arte without travelling: the fair’s site carries its dates, closing reports and essays, and it runs a free app for iOS and Android. If your interest is Latin America as a whole, our overview of art fairs in Latin America places São Paulo beside Bogotá, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, and our guide to emerging art in Mexico City covers the home market. For two other fairs on the same circuit, read our guides to ARTBO in Bogotá and arteba in Buenos Aires.

On our side, we are a Mexico City gallery, not an exhibitor at SP-Arte, and we cannot speak for the fair. As a reference for what an original looks like in our catalogue, The Witness by Su Lin Casanova, an oil on wooden panel from 2025, 50 × 40 cm, is available today. You can browse every original on our works page. The lowest price on the live catalogue today is MX$ 2,328, shown for a limited-edition print, and prices change, so check each work page.
