About this work

Catrina Africana sits squarely inside Daniel de Polignac's central preoccupation: how people repeat themselves as their surroundings change. It turns his interest in behavior, identity, and the patterns that persist across time into a single quiet observation — context shifts, but the emotional dynamics hold.

Worked in acrylic on canvas, the painting balances expressive gesture against compositional restraint. De Polignac layers color into controlled transitions, letting atmosphere and rhythm carry meaning where narrative is withheld. The horizontal format pulls the eye across the surface, and subtle shifts in tone reward a longer look, releasing their weight gradually.
