About this work

Tepeyollotl draws on the Aztec deity of mountains, echoes, and the jaguar — strength and resonance, the unseen force moving beneath the surface. It's a clear example of how Roti Martínez pulls Nahuatl and Aztec reference into abstraction, translating ancestral force into mood rather than illustration.

In acrylic on canvas, expressive energy is held against compositional restraint. Directional marks and color interactions build a sense of vibration that answers the title's themes of sound and reverberation, form kept clear even as the surface layers depth. Framed in natural pine, it arrives ready to hang.
