About this work

Expiación — atonement — is characteristic of Citlali Haro's abstraction, in which the title carries as much weight as the image. Working in an emotional and spiritual register, she lets color and gesture stand in for what can't quite be said, so a word like "atonement" becomes a pressure felt across the canvas rather than a scene depicted.

The painting is oil on canvas at 100 by 80 cm. Haro works the medium for its slowness, building and reworking passages until the surface holds a sense of accumulation — marks laid over marks, as if the act of painting were itself the act of atoning.

Oil on canvas · 2026 · 100 × 80 cm (39.37 × 31.50 in) · Unique · Ships mounted on a professional wooden frame · Certificate of authenticity included.
