About this work

Su Lin Casanova paints the inner life as something hard-won, turning toward resilience, identity, and transformation with disarming directness. El Espejo de Obsidiana gives that impulse its emblem: the obsidian mirror of the title names exactly what her paintings do — they look back.

Worked in oil on fabric rather than canvas, the painting carries the naming of inner states that runs through her work, strength and vulnerability held together. Casanova mounts it on a wooden frame at 120 centimeters tall, the fabric ground lending the surface a particular grain, the mirror motif turning the act of looking into a confrontation with the self.

Oil on fabric · 2026 · 120 × 80 cm (47.2 × 31.5 in) · Unique work · Mounted on a wooden frame · Certificate of authenticity included.
