About this work

Inner Truth is a keystone in Su Lin Casanova's turn inward, where painting becomes a means of naming states of strength and vulnerability with disarming directness. Resilience, identity, and transformation run through her work, and this title points straight at the reckoning her paintings stage — images that, as she describes them, look back at whoever stands before them.

The work is built in oil and latex on fabric, a combination that gives the surface an unexpected pliancy and a slight sheen where the latex sits against the matte oil. Casanova works the material as much as the image, letting texture carry feeling. The result is intimate in scale and steady in address.
