About this work

Inner Power carries the central concern of Su Lin Casanova's practice — the inner life treated as hard-won territory. She paints resilience, identity, and transformation, naming strength and vulnerability without euphemism, and this title lays its subject bare. Hers are paintings that look back, and the sense of a held, gathered force is the point.

The work has an unusual, interactive dimension: parts of the surface are sealed beneath a layer of latex that the owner can peel away a single time, uncovering the woman beneath in one irreversible gesture. Concealment and revelation become the real subject — protection, and the decision to let oneself be seen. Made in oil and latex on fabric, the supple latex plays against the depth of the oil, the surface shifting as light moves across it.
