About this work

In Paloma Ulacia's work, women hold the frame with quiet authority, and Mujer de Pelo Chino — “woman with curly hair” — sits squarely in that practice. It is a portrait built on presence rather than narrative, part of a body of restrained figurative work concerned with identity and the dignity of everyday life and labor.

Worked in acrylic on paper, the piece keeps to an economy of line that lets character carry the image. Color stays clear and deliberate; the curl of the hair and the set of the features do the work, with nothing overstated and everything felt.

Acrylic on paper · 2025 · 28.5 × 24 cm (11.2 × 9.4 in) · Unique · Framed in 2 cm white-painted pine with single-face acrylic glass · Certificate of authenticity included.
