About this work

Rouge (Hermès Lipstick) sits inside Natasha Joseph's ongoing study of glamour and feminine ritual — the Chanel, the martinis, the everyday luxury she renders with affection and a wink. Made in 2025, it takes an iconic object and reads it as identity: desire, ritual, and self-presentation folded into a single tube of lipstick. The reference is knowing, the tone quietly satirical.

Executed in oil stick on canvas, the work leans on saturated color and confident, tactile mark-making that echoes the act it depicts. Rich reds carry the piece — sensuality and power tied to a familiar cultural code. At 60 × 50 cm it holds a wall as a focal point while drawing the viewer close enough to read the gesture in the surface.
