About this work

SOUL 01 anchors the series that gives Genoveva Kelleher's practice its name, where she paints the soul as a place and moves through consciousness, emotional rupture and the natural world in a register close to expressionism. As she often does, she leaves the surface looking excavated rather than composed — energy allowed to circulate without settling into fixed form.

Built from mixed media with inks on canvas, it lets the inks flow and pool into layered transparency, with the traces of gesture and process left visible. At 160 × 160 cm the square is large enough to meet a viewer at full height. It is stretched on a wooden frame and arrives ready to hang.
