About this work

My Soul Awakens is one of the named works at the center of Genoveva Kelleher's practice, alongside the SOUL series and Interrupted Dreams. She paints the soul as a place, and here the subject is emergence — awareness moving from dormancy into presence — expressed through rhythm and material rather than any literal scene, in her expressionist register.

Made with mixed media and inks on canvas, the work lets forms bleed, merge and dissolve, so the surface oscillates between clarity and ambiguity. At 104 × 94 cm it holds attention without demanding a whole wall, the layered construction rewarding a slow read. It is stretched on a wooden frame and arrives ready to hang.
