About this work

Disaster belongs to the charged group at the heart of Gareth Stehr's practice — the same run as Triumph and Bros in Arms — where he paints in the language of the street. It takes on rupture as a force rather than a scene, tied to his recurring questions about chance and endurance.

Acrylic and aerosol meet across a wide horizontal field, density grounding the surface while spray brings speed and abrasion. Marks collide, overlap, and resist resolution, so collapse reads as both event and process. The swagger stays disciplined; intensity builds through layering rather than spectacle.
