About this work

Snow is Tori Pounds at her most reductive — stillness, suspension, the quiet that follows intensity. She translates the atmosphere of a snowed-in landscape rather than the thing itself: sound absorbed, time slowed, an abstract field defined by openness and restraint. It sits at the contemplative edge of her otherwise figurative practice.

Worked in oil on canvas, the painting develops through deep layering and subtle tonal shifts, color relationships handled with a sensitivity that keeps the calm from tipping into emptiness. At 210 × 180 cm the scale asks for distance and time; the surface gains density the longer it is read, holding a wall through what it withholds.
