About this work

Memory 73, 2018 is part of Chuma Montemayor's ongoing Memory series, in which the image is treated as something remembered rather than recorded. Working through photographic and mixed-media processes, he returns to repetition, erosion, and the way a picture persists and shifts in the mind. This print reads less like a document than a trace — interrupted, layered, quietly insistent.

It is an inkjet print on cotton paper, a support whose softness holds fine tonal gradation without harsh contrast, reinforcing the muted, contemplative character of the series. The square format turns the image inward, rewarding close looking over immediate legibility. Issued in an edition of three, this is print 1 of 3.
